Non-Profit: Community Water Center

Weber, Hayes and Associates was retained by Community Water Center to provide technical assistance and water system operation as part of a 123-Trichloropropane (TCP) Treatment Pilot Project. 123-TCP is a carcinogenic chemical included in agricultural fumigants manufactured before the 1980s. The chemical is persistent and has remained in soil and groundwater since its early application. The projects goals included (1) installation of 123-TCP Point-of-Entry household filters to treat water to safe levels below the California Maximum Contaminant Level; and (2) monitor and document the project process, costs, and results to inform statewide efforts to effectively and economically implement 123-TCP treatment for domestic wells and state small and local small water systems. The Pilot Project is being implemented at 12 households supplied by domestic wells or small water systems with 8 additional planned installations. Work tasks completed in tandem with Community Water Center Staff include:

  • Initial well testing, site reconnaissance, and home-owner communication for project start-up
  • Design input and installation coordination for 123-TCP treatment systems at over a dozen sites
  • Monthly monitoring, operation, and maintenance for each system
  • On-going reporting and participation with a Technical Advisory Committee
