Weber, Hayes and Associates was retained to complete the cleanup of historic, unlawful burial/disposal of chemicals and solid waste (i.e., pesticides, fertilizer, paint-related chemicals and solid waste) at a commercial plant nursery property which was reported to the California Department of 
Toxic Substances Control, with investigation and cleanup subsequently directed by the Monterey County Environmental Health Bureau (Health Bureau). To bring the site into regulatory compliance, WHA completed the following tasks:
- Worked closely with the Health Bureau and current nursery owner to identify the location of buried chemical containing waste that was reported by a former employee whistleblower
- Retained the services of a HAZ-certified excavation contractor to conduct earthworks/excavation within a limited access greenhouse building at the documented location of buried waste to completely remove the buried waste from the subsurface
- Identified and segregate the solid waste from the soil with the implementation of appropriate site health and safetymeasures for subsequent disposal at an appropriate, licensed facility
- Collected confirmation soil samples from the bottom and sidewalls of the completed excavation for laboratory analysis to confirm that no contaminants of potential concern had impacted soil quality at concentrations above applicable screening thresholds
- Confirmed that contaminants of concern that were released from the buried waste had not impacted groundwater by advancing soil borings to first encountered groundwater for sample collection and laboratory analysis
- With the successful removal of buried waste / impacted soils and confirmation that groundwater had not been impacted by the release, the Health Bureau closed the case with no further action required
